Frogfish walking on the ocean floor
There are a variety of ocean-dwelling fish that are capable of supporting themselves on modified pectoral fins, or even walking across the bottom. This video of a frogfish illustrates the locomotion as well as any I've seen.
This video doesn't provide a good image of the fish itself (it appears to be a low-resolution remotely-operated camera installed ??at the base of an oil rig perhaps). For proper, colorful images of frogfish with their convoluted body profiles and camoflage coloration, go to this impressive website maintained by a Swiss diver.
The reason I'm blogging this low-res video is for its demonstration of vigorous and effective ambulation by the fish, and for the patently obvious implications that has for the concepts of evolution of land animals, including man.
Update Jan 14: Gerard Vlemmings at The Presurfer found a much better video.
