Strange weather in the Midwest yesterday

Record-breaking heat (100 degrees F.) in Granite Falls MN, while simultaneously a 6-hour drive away it was only 34 degrees F. in Grand Marais MN. Not due to a hot or cold front, but to "compressive heating."
